Some Common Questions

When do you worship?
We worship every Sunday at 10:00 a.m. The Sunday School and Bible class hour is from 9:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m.

Should I dress in a certain way when I come to church?
God's Word itself offers little in the way of a dress code, so neither do we. The basic principle to keep in mind is simply this. God is God. He is awesome. He is wonderful. He made us. He remakes us in Jesus Christ. Worship is God-focused, not "us"-focused. So, obviously, we'll think, "I want my clothing to show respect to God."

Second, the Bible does use the word "modest" (I Timothy 2:9) for our clothing. Immodest tends to draw attention to self and, clearly, that is not worship of God anymore.

Third, the Bible says clothing should not show off wealth or success (I Timothy 2:9). Again, such use of clothes is "self-centered" and not appropriate to worship, or even of a general Christian attitude.

So, that's it - respectful, modest, not showing off.

What about small children in church, is that OK?
Absolutely! We want them to be a part of the worshipping community of believers. The way children learn appropriate behavior in church is to learn in worship services.

Of course, no one wants to make it hard for someone else to worship. Normal infant and small child noises should not be considered a distraction, though. Jesus said that the kingdom of God belongs to little children and to people like them.

If a little one is having a "bad day" and is persisting at crying or "carrying on", then you may use the TV available in back. You will be able to hear all of the service and to see the sermon and much of the service on TV. If the little one settles down, do consider returning to the worship service.

What are Sunday School and Bible class?
Sunday School is a weekly, hour-long class taught by members of the congregation to children from approximately age 3 - Grade 12. The children are grouped by age into several classes. It meets from 9:30, starting with an opening in church, until 10:30 a.m. The source of the lessons is the Holy Bible.

Bible class is intended for all those beyond grade 12. In fact, if older teens prefer Bible class with the adults, that's OK too. The Bible class is for all adults.   It is usually led by the Pastor and takes place in church, from 9:00 a.m. - 9:45 a.m.

At Bible class, topics are studied from the Bible's perspective or portions of the Bible are studied, verse by verse. It is much less formal than the worship service and affords ample opportunity for questions and discussion.

Do we need to be members for our children to attend Sunday School or for us to come to Bible class?
No. All children are welcome in Sunday School. All adults are invited to Bible study. Sunday School is free for all children. A voluntary offering is received at the beginning of Sunday School / Bible class.

How does a person become a member of the congregation?
We rush no one into this. Especially if a person does not know what "Lutheran" is all about, we want the person to find out what that means before considering membership.

This congregation and church body of which it is a part - the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod - is a Bible-believing Lutheran congregation. We are sure that the Holy Bible is God's Word. God is the first Author of every word in the Book. The Bible is therefore true and eternal.

As you regularly worship with us, you will begin learning what we believe. To speed up this process, however, our Pastor usually has one or two groups going just for the purpose of teaching people. We call them Adult Information Classes. Each little group meets once a week for one and one-half hours, specifically to show the participants what we believe and why. The Bible is the sole source of what we believe, teach and publicly confess. If interested in attending, mention this to the Pastor.

No, taking the class does not make you a member. Nor are are you implying that you will become a member by taking the class. After completing the class, however, each person will know what we are all about and will decide for himself / herself about becoming a member of this Christian congregation.
