And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers." 1 John 3:16
News from Mrs. Schulz
Preschool and Kindergarten
- Just a reminder that a number of children are scheduled to bring various items for this Friday's snack. Please check your November calendars. Thank you.
News from Miss Kroening
Grades 1-4
- Scholastic book orders went last week. They are due back tomorrow, Thursday, November 29th. Multiple orders from various catalogs can be combined into one total payment, and any checks can be made out to: Scholastic Book Orders.
- There is no hymn attached today. Instead, please note the green sheet with all the December memory treasures on it. Please reference this sheet for all upcoming memory treasures until Christmas. Please help your child stay on top of the Memory Treasures this month. We are practicing the Children's Christmas Service each day in class, but it will not be enough if each child is not also learning the assigned parts each day at home. Thank you for your help in teaching your child the parts to their important Christmas message!
News from Mr. Monday
Grades 5-8
- Congratulations to our first quarter honor roll students! On honor roll: ("B" average in all subjects, no grades below C-) Matthew Berry, James Bertelsen, Brianna Cunningham, Alyssa Eastburn, Katy Wheatley. Earning high honors: ("A" average in all subjects, no grades below a B-) Mariah Eastburn, Morgan Gilbert, Amanda Hohler, Sven Johnson. I appreciate the hard work by everyone in our class. Keep it up!
- All 5-8 students have received instruction about a Math project due December 20th. This is the first of three such projects. Each student needs to use poster board for this project. You can purchase a sheet of poster board from me for 25¢.
- Please note the permission slip the Air Mobility Command Museum at Dover Air Force Base went last week. It is due back next Friday, December 7th. Please help us as a chaperone/driver if you can.
- Students received their portrait packets today if they were present for the October picture day. The make-up date packets will arrive in a few weeks.
News for the Whole School
- A big thank you to all the parents, students, and other helpers who put in time preparing for Grandparents' Day. It was a success, and we couldn't do it without you!
- Please note the permission form for Christmas caroling is due. We need numerous chaperones for this whole school event. So far we have drivers for about half of our students. If we do not have enough drivers, we will simply take as many students as possible. Those students with parents driving will have first priority. Since most of the drivers so far are from Miss Kroening's class, her class will be the first to be assigned rides. After that, we will assign rides to the oldest students first. We will be leaving school around 9:30 and returning before the end of our half-day on Tuesday, December 4th. Check you schedule and see if you can join us!
- The season of Advent begins next week. St. John's will be celebrating the season of Advent with special Wednesday evening services the next three Wednesdays. Come, join us for a soup and sandwich supper beginning at 5:30 and the worship service at 7:00. Take time out of this often hectic season and prayerfully prepare your hearts for the coming of our Savior!
- It's on your school calendar, but double check that it's also already on your busy Christmas family calendar: our Children's Christmas Service is Friday evening, December 21st, at 6:00. All children are involved in the service. This is a wonderful opportunity that your children have to share the message of our Savior's birth. Bring the family and enjoy their proclamation of this priceless news!
- Third through eighth graders, our district spelling bee is coming up on Wednesday, January 16th, in Falls Church, VA. More details will follow on a permission form, but a sheet of grade appropriate words was sent home today. Take time to look at a few words at a time. These are the actual words that the spelling bee words will be taken from.
- Please find the December calendar attached today. Each month's calendar and each week's Wednesday Note are also always available on our website at stjohnsde.org. Thanks to Mrs. Wilder for all the work she does keeping our website updated!
- We have an update for your school directory - Nick Saunders and family.
