News from Miss Kroening
Grades 1-4
- I will be sending home a reading activity entitled "Family Times" you're your student each week. The activities are extra credit and may simply be returned to school by the end of the week.
- Our classroom is in need of a few magazines to restock our basket. We cut pictures out of these magazines occasionally for various class assignments. If you have any magazines that you are ready to toss, send them our way. Thanks!
News from Mr. Monday
Grades 5-8
- Spelling and Writing Workshop began this week. Please check and sign your child's assignment notebook every night to help their progress.
- Please ask your child if they have selected their first outside reading book yet. If not, please request that they find one soon so they can start reading during these first few "easier" days of the school year.
- Starting after Labor Day, our class will have their Geography tests on Thursdays instead of Wednesdays. This change will allow our class to join Miss K's class in choir (for a better sound) and PE (for more exciting games).
News for the Whole School
- We will soon be sending home a student directory. Families have found this to be a handy tool in the past for their students to be able to contact each other for both homework help and social activities. It will only include home phone number and address. If for some reason you do not wish to have your information included or you wish to have a number other than your home number published, please sign and return the attached form by Monday, August 31st.
- The treat table is up and running! Various snack are available for 25¢ and 50¢ after school. We plan to have it open on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays each week. Thanks to Mr. Mackey who will be manning it!
- There is currently a table in the school hallway with sample St. John's t-shirts and sweatshirts on it. You may order these at any time during the school year, but if you wish to check out the sizing, now would be a good time. Sweatshirts may be worn as part of the school uniform, and t-shirts are worn on special event days (Field Day) and can be worn for phy ed class. Orders should be handed off to Mr. or Mrs. Monday.
- On Friday, October 2nd, Mr. Monday will be taking our entire school on a field trip. We will be participating in a Science exploration program in the morning and visiting our state capitol building in the afternoon. Look for more details in future Wednesday Notes. Please speak to Mr. Monday if you are interested in driving.
- ATTENTION: we are changing the dates of the Terra Nova testing week to the following week - September 28th to October 1st. Please make the change on your school calendars.
- "Oops" lunches have returned! If you child forgets his or her lunch, a very simple lunch consisting of cheese crackers, applesauce, and a drink will be provided. Your child will bring home a bright orange slip of paper asking for $1 to cover the cost of the little lunch.
- Did you mislay your Wednesday note? Never fear, the Internet is here! That's right, each and every Wednesday note is posted on our school website: www.stjohnsde.org Any permission forms you misplace can be found posted on the big bulletin board outside of Miss Kroening's room. Grab the form you need and find someone to make you a copy! (And then return the form to the board, of course.:)
- Free cash for the school! Our school is blessed to be signed up for several different cash back programs. You read last week about redeeming your Box Tops. We also collect Campbell's soup labels (the entire label), which earn points that are redeemable in a school supply catalog. If you are not already recycling your printer cartridges, they can be placed in the box under the table in the school hallway. Staples will donate $3 per cartridge to our school. In addition, if your Safeway card is registered with our school, a percentage of your Safeway purchases will come back to the school. If you collect your Zingo's receipts, we receive 1% back on those, also. We also receive 1% back on Acme receipts from select Acme stores. Check with Mrs. Monday if you are an Acme shopper to see if an Acme near you is eligible. If you would like to register your Safeway card, also speak to Mrs. Monday. If you happen to shop at Zingo's, send in those receipts. What an easy way to contribute to wish list projects around our school!
