"This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.
And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers." 1 John 3:16

Did you know that our yearly attendance last year was 95% for the whole school?
Let's try to beat that mark by attending school each day. We can do it!!

News from Mrs. Schulz

Preschool and Kindergarten

  1. Please reference your Preschool and Kindergarten calendar for the month's activities.

  2. You will find your child's reading forms attached to today's newsletter.

News from Miss Kroening

Grades 1-4

  1. Please see the attached Spelling Unit 1 lists. Each week's Wednesday note will include the upcoming Spelling Unit unless otherwise noted. First grade does not start Spelling tests quite yet. Keep an eye out for that upcoming milestone in future Wednesday Notes.

  2. Remember that all students MUST wear a belt on pants and shorts with belt loops. Skirts and skorts without loops do not need to have a belt.

  3. Reminder - all Memory Treasures start next Tuesday. Please refer to your September Memory Treasures calendar. I have even posted one outside of our door. Please also note the hymn verse that is attached today. (It is printed on the flip side of the spelling words.) Each week, I will send home the upcoming Friday hymn Memory Treasure recitation as part of the Wednesday note.

News from Mr. Monday

Grades 5-8

  1. Welcome to all students and families! I'm looking forward to a great year.

  2. Please encourage good communication between you, your child, and me with visits now and again just to talk about how things are going.

  3. Attached is information about our first field trip Friday, September 19th. Please read, sign, and return the permission form and fee by Monday, September 10th. Check your schedules and see if you can be a driver or chaperone for the day. We need several!

  4. Remember that all students MUST wear a belt on pants and shorts with belt loops. Skirts and skorts without loops do not need to have a belt.

  5. Spelling will not take place until next week. All other classes will begin and will probably have homework already. Please check and sign your child's assignment notebook every night to help their progress. Remember that a signed notebook allows them their first outside break each day; otherwise they have to sit out.

  6. Please ask your child if they have selected their first outside reading book yet. If not, please request that they find one soon so they can start reading during these first few "easier" days of the school year.

News for the Whole School

  1. ATTENTION ALL NEW FAMILIES!! Pastor Schulz hosts three "Appetizer Classes" every September to acquaint parents with what our church and school believe, teach, and want your child to believe also. These classes will also serve as a kind of training course in how to talk about Biblical matters at home with your whole family. Christian training begins in the home, and these classes are a great way to learn how! All new families should attend these classes. Each class lasts for about an hour. Dates are September 5,12, and 19 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Both parents are encouraged to attend, but that might not always be possible. If you cannot attend any of these dates, please fill out the attached sheet indicating an alternative date. Thank you.

  2. We will soon be sending home a student directory. Families have found this to be a handy tool in the past for their students to be able to contact each other for both homework help and social activities. It will only include home phone number and address. If for some reason you do not wish to have your information included or you wish to have a number other than your home number published, please sign and return the attached form by Tuesday, September 4th.

  3. Our school offers a few hot lunch opportunities for your convenience. One of them is a home cooked meal provided by a few of the moms and is offered once a month. The other is a simple pizza order each Friday. This Friday will be the first pizza hot lunch occasion. If your child would like to participate, please see the attached form.

  4. We are collecting Box Tops for Education again this year. Please send these with your child as a way to contribute money to our school as well as work toward a class prize if your child's class has the most Box Tops during the quarter. We appreciate your hard work last year. We hope to top last year's total. Remember that your child will earn a free treat from our treat table for every 25 Box Tops he brings in!

  5. There is currently a table in the school hallway with sample St. John's t-shirts and sweatshirts on it. You may order these at any time during the school year, but if you wish to check out the sizing, now would be a good time. Sweatshirts may be worn as part of the school uniform, and t-shirts are worn on special event days (Field Day). Orders should be handed off to Mr. or Mrs. Monday.
