And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers." 1 John 3:16
News from Mrs. Schulz
Preschool and Kindergarten
- Remember that this Friday we are wearing our favorite color.
- Also, in order to make our "crazy critter" snack on Friday, certain children will be bringing certain needed items. Please check your Preschool and Kindergarten calendars to see if your child is to be bringing a needed food item. Thank you!
News from Miss Kroening
Grades 1-4
- Each week an extra credit opportunity will be sent home on Monday. It is called "Family Times" and is a reading activity of varying nature to do with your child. You may return it any time before the following Monday. Although it is extra credit, I would, of course, encourage you to take advantage of it each week!
- Book orders went home today and are due back Thursday, September 13th. These are optional books that you may choose to purchase for your child's enjoyment outside of school requirements. If you order from multiple fliers, simply calculate one total. Any checks should be made payable to: Scholastic Book Orders.
News from Mr. Monday
Grades 5-8
- Many of you have been able to return your permission form regarding our first field trip Friday, September 19th. If you have not yet had a chance, please read, sign, and return the permission form and fee by Monday, September 10th. Check your schedules and see if you can be a driver or chaperone for the day. We should only need one more vehicle.

News for the Whole School
- ATTENTION ALL NEW FAMILIES!! Pastor Schulz hosts three "Appetizer Classes" every September to acquaint parents with what our church and school believe, teach, and want your child to believe also. These classes will also serve as a kind of training course in how to talk about Biblical matters at home with your whole family. Christian training begins in the home, and these classes are a great way to learn how! All new families should attend these classes. Each class lasts for about an hour. The first of the classes is tonight! Dates are September 5,12, and 19 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Both parents are encouraged to attend, but that might not always be possible. If you cannot attend any of these dates, please fill out the attached sheet indicating an alternative date. Thank you.
- A copy of Parents' Crosslink newsletter is attached today. This is a parenting newsletter from the Wisconsin Lutheran Synod and is a very valuable resource in aiding parents with their children. Each school family will receive this on a monthly basis during this school year as a gift subscription from the school. Please take a look!
- Many of you participated in last week's pizza hot lunch. This week you will notice that there is an order form for the entire month. On the flip side is the regular weekly order form. You are welcome to use whichever form is most convenient for you.
- Did you mislay your Wednesday note? Never fear, the internet is here! That's right, each and every Wednesday note is posted on our school website: www.stjohnsde.org Any forms you misplace can be found posted on the big bulletin board outside of Miss Kroening's room. Grab the form you need and find someone to make you a copy! (And then return the form to the board, of course.:)
- Please see the attached information about our PEACE group. As you will see, it is meant to be an easy way both to get involved at school and to serve as a helper. Check it out!
- Check out what Box Tops is all about. An explanation along with a product list is attached today.
- Free cash for the school! Our school is blessed to be signed up for several different cash back programs. You read last week about redeeming your Box Tops. We also collect Campbell's soup labels (the entire label) which earns points that are redeemable in a school supply catalog. In addition, if your Safeway card is registered with our school, a percentage of your Safeway purchases will come back to the school. If you collect your Zingo's receipts, we receive 1% back on those, also. If you would like to register your Safeway card, speak to Mrs. Monday. If you happen to shop at Zingo's, send in those receipts. What an easy way to contribute to wish list projects around our school!
- There is currently a table in the school hallway with sample St. John's t-shirts and sweatshirts on it. The table will remain up through this weekend. You may order these at any time during the school year, but if you wish to check out the sizing, now would be a good time. Sweatshirts may be worn as part of the school uniform, and t-shirts are worn on special event days (Field Day). Orders should be handed off to Mr. or Mrs. Monday.
